Ribfest 2013 logoBurlington’s Ribfest, which takes place Labour Day weekend (August 30 to September 2), needs volunteers – lots of them! Organizers turn to community groups for help. To say thank you, Ribfest will make a donation to that group’s favourite charity. Home of Grace is a participating group this year – and Speroway is our favourite charity! There are two ways you can volunteer at Ribfest that can result in a donation to Speroway, designated to Home of Grace in Kenya:

1. Security: There are about 300 shifts that need to be covered over the four days. Shifts are 4 to 5 hours each over the hours 10:30am to 11:30pm. This is mostly controlling the flow of people at the gates, calling in the right people when needed and generally responding to questions. Security volunteers need to attend one hour-long orientation session. (There will be several to choose from.) Because the entire venue is licensed, security volunteers are encouraged to have their SmartServe certification. Rotary will pay for you to get it through an online course. Volunteers must be 19 18 years or older. Every shift we fill qualifies for portion of the $8,000 budget for security volunteers.

2. Recycling: These volunteers are responsible for cleaning up litter from the night before and collecting and sorting waste during the event. Not glamorous, but important! Volunteers must be 12 or older, so this is a great way to get teens involved! Make it a family event! Volunteer shifts are also about 4 hours long over the hours 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. Shifts filled on Sunday and Monday of the event qualify for a donation.

Consider inviting neighbours, teammates, classmates, co-workers or friends to serve with you! Why not sign up for two shifts?

We also need you to spread the word so we can fill as many spots as possible! Share this opportunity. You can use the sharing buttons on this page.
