Priorities
When needs are so great, it is easy to use whatever resources are available to the need that is most pressing at the moment. To combat this, Speroway and the Home of Grace staff have developed a set of priorities for how she spends her resources. They are:
The Basics
It seems obvious that the children need the basics, but nothing can be taken for granted. A safe, warm, family environment for the children is vital for psycho-social development. This is vital to produce productive citizens of the future.
- Food & Water
- Clothing
- Basic medical care
- Shelter – a safe, family environment
Education
With an inadequate public education system, private schooling is essential for the children to have a brighter future. We also offer skills-based vocational training for children who are not able to meet the academic challenges of high school.
- Tuition and Exam fees
- Uniforms
- School supplies
- Transportation
Community outreach
Care and encouragement of people in the community who are in desperate need. Home of Grace is becoming a community hub as we expand community programs. We currently feed 40 children in a Lunch Feeding Program. These are some of the most challenged children in the neighbourhood. Without a healthy lunch, they may only get one poor meal per day. We have already seen a big improvement in school performance of children in the program. As funds become available, we hope to grow the program.
Sustainability
Staff, with the help of older children, are cultivating food crops in a nearby plot of farmland to reduce food costs. We are also looking at other sustainable projects that can benefit both the children and the community. Sign up for our newsletter to learn more.
